Historical Demography

The aim of the panel is to bring together research in historical demography from across the world. Historically, the IUSSP panel on historical demography has been a very important meeting place for historical demographers outside the main demography/social science history meetings, and it has also been instrumental for reaching out to other areas of demography interested in a long-term perspective on population issues. The Panel aims to continue this effort by focusing on both classical issues and new areas. 

In addition, given the very interesting technological developments taking place in machine reading of text sources, which could revolutionize historical demography by enabling massive digitization of printed and written sources, the Panel aims to organize a workshop where research groups working in this area would be invited to present the state of the art to interested researchers and data base providers working with population data.
