The 5th KOSTAT-UNFPA Summer Seminar on Population

Republic of Korea, July 23 to August 10, 2018

Registration deadline: June 18, 2018

The Summer Seminar on Population provides a forum for discussions on population and a set of useful demographic tools to participants from across the globe. To this end, three consecutive and individual workshops will take place with specific emphasis on “Demography with R”, “Subnational Population Projection”, and “Ageing and NTAs” during the 5th KOSTAT-UNFPA Summer Seminar on Population.

The workshops will provide an opportunity for demographical experts, government officials, and graduate students to learn innovative methods for producing and analyzing population statistics and demographical information. Hence, the seminar serves as a platform to foster experts on population statistics and contribute to each population statistical office’s capabilities. All participants are encouraged to select one or more workshops among the three workshops stated below. The working language of all three workshops is English.

Workshop themes for 2018 are as follows:

  1. 1.       Demography with R
    July 23 – July 27 / Daejeon

Focusing on the use of the R statistical language for handling, investigating, and displaying demographic data. Practical hands-on exercises will be emphasized to build up participants’ R experience.

  1. 2.       Subnational Population Projection
    July 30 – August 3 / Busan

Lectures and hands-on practice regarding demographic projections at the subnational levels (province, state, country, city, or ethnic groups) as well as the nation as a whole.

  1. 3.       Aging and NTAs

August 6 – August 10 / Seoul

The introduction of National Transfer Accounts (NTA) and basic frameworks to construct the accounts,
