Graduated with master's degree in 1988 and started working with NIDI that same year. Worked five years for NIDI in Yemen, as technical advisor for the 1986 and 1988 censuses for former North and South Yemen, respectively, then became independent consultant and worked for ten years in Yemen with UNDP, World Bank, UNICEF, GTZ, and others, mostly on (baseline) surveys and health information systems. Joined UNFPA in 2004, first five years as CST advisor for South and West Asia, stationed in Kathmandu, from 2008 to 2013 as PD advisor at UNFPA sub-regional office for the Pacific, and since 2013 as regional advisor Population and Development with UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
