Fernando Lozano-Ascencio is a Senior Researcher at the Regional Center for Multidisciplinary Research (CRIM), at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he coordinates the Research Area on Migration and Social Transformation. He received his PhD in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999, and his master in demography from El Colegio de México in 1991. His areas of expertise include skilled migration from Mexico and Latin America, return migration, remittances and development in origin countries, policies on international migration, and social organization of migration. Dr. Lozano-Ascencio has published widely on these topics. His work includes twelve books and about 65 scholarly articles and book chapters. He was the president of the Latin American Population Association (ALAP) during the period 2011-2012. He participates in the Executive Committee of the International Network on Migration and Development, and belongs to the Mexican Research System (SNI), level II.
