Professional Summary:

Dr Beguy is the Population Data Advisor at UNFPA West and Central Africa Regional Office where he provides strategic coordination and leadership for population data especially from population and housing censuses, household surveys, as well as CRVS to support countries in advancing UNFPA’s mandate, ICPD PoA, the 2030 Agenda and the AU Agenda 2063 in the region. Before joining UNFPA, Donatien was a statistician and demographer with the World Bank-UNHCR Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement where he provides high-level technical expertise to enhance the ability of stakeholders to make timely and evidence-informed decisions that can improve the lives of forcibly displaced populations. Between March 2017 and July 2022, he worked as a demographer with UN-Habitat where he provided high-level technical support to countries to monitor urban conditions and trends as well as report on urban agendas and urban components of global agendas. Before 2017, Donatien worked as a research scientist with the African Population and Health Research Center where he gained vast experience in research, capacity building, knowledge translation and monitoring and evaluation of development programs in the population and health field in Africa. His research areas include urban health, SRHR, migration and urbanization, health and demographic surveillance systems, and global urban monitoring.
