COVID-19 has already had a devastating impact on SRHR worldwide. Globally, millions are at risk of losing access to essential services, and the pandemic threatens to undermine progress toward the Sustainable Development Goal of universal health coverage. Access to comprehensive SRH services and recognition of related rights must be a foundation for solutions going forward in order to achieve this goal by 2030.

In 2020, the Guttmacher Institute launched three bodies of work highlighting new research on the critical importance of investing in SRHR, the state of unintended pregnancy and abortion worldwide, and impacts of the United States’ expanded Mexico City Policy, also known as the “global gag rule.”
