Abstract
Loin de constituer un bloc homogène, la population immigrée de France affiche au contraire une forte disparité sur le plan scolaire. Les données de l’enquête Trajectoires et Origines (INED-INSEE, 2008) permettent de rendre compte de cette hétérogénéité de manière inédite par rapport aux sources classiques puisqu’elle autorise la mise en relation des ressources scolaires des immigrés avec les étapes de leurs histoires migratoires. Il apparait qu’un immigré sur dix est venu en France pour poursuivre des études, au lycée (cycle long) ou dans le supérieur. La communication s’attachera à dresser le portrait de ceux d’entre eux qui résident en France métropolitaine. Cette sous-population regroupe les immigrés venus en France pour poursuivre des études et se compose, d’une part, d’une minorité numérique d’étudiants qui suivent une formation initiale en 2008 et, d’autre part, d’anciens étudiants, plus nombreux, qui ont terminé leur formation et vivent en France métropolitaine. A quels niveaux et dans quelles filières les étudiants sont-ils inscrits ? Et quelles sont les situations scolaires et professionnelles de ceux ayant terminé leurs études?

Abstract (Translated)
Far from being a homogeneous group, the immigrant population in France differs markedly in terms of education. The data from the Trajectoires et Origines survey on career paths and origins (INED-INSEE, 2008) highlights this heterogeneity in a new way with respect to traditional sources because it enables the educational resources of immigrants to be related to the different stages in their migrational history. It appears that one immigrant out of ten came to France for study purposes, either to attend senior high school or tertiary education. Our paper will endeavour to draw a portrait of those living in metropolitan France. This sub-population comprises immigrants who moved to France to continue their studies and consists of a numerical minority of students who were beginning their training in 2008 and a larger group of former students who had completed their training and were living in metropolitan France. At what level and in what branches do students enrol? What are the educational and professional situations of those who have completed their studies?
