Change of title Urbanisation, economic development and family transformation through history

Mourir riche et sans enfant. Déterminants et conséquences économiques. France XIXe-XXe siècles.

Abstract

Die rich and childless. Determinants and economic consequences. France 19th-20th centuries.
Abstract (Translated)
Using the TRA survey by INED, I have observed the socio-economic determinants of not having a child at the time of death in France from the 19th to the mid-20th century. The aim was to understand how the results vary according to the social background and observable characteristics of the person concerned, his/her father and other siblings. During the period studied, childless individuals at the time of death often lived in large urban centres (30% of the estates were in Paris, Lyon and Marseille). I will try to understand whether this is due to living conditions in cities or to the greater propensity of urban dwellers who originally came from the country to die childless.
