Because of the high number of very good papers, and due to the maximum of 4 papers for a session, I propose to focus the firts one on children/primary level, and the additionnal one on youth (post-primary level). Another aspect of the selection, was to procure a geographical diversity for the two sessions. After that, I there are still vrey interesting papers but not seletced !

Abstract

Title (Translated)
Comparative analysis of pupils’ school careers and future plans in 8 countries in Europe
Abstract (Translated)
In a comparative study, we have sought to identify the future plans of secondary school pupils in various European countries. How far forward do they look? What are the major factors determining the extent of their educational ambitions? In order to explain and understand the construction of these school careers, we examine the educational achievement of secondary school pupils with respect to their national culture and also by closer analysis of their own future plans and the ways their parents are involved. We use quantitative research carried out in Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia and the United Kingdom. They have deliberately been chosen for their contrasting size, duration of European Union membership and educational systems. As part of the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme, the 2010 research project “Governance of educational trajectories in Europe” (GOETE http://www.goete.eu/) presents a picture of teenagers’ school careers with both their own points of view and those of their parents. The survey is based on a sample of 6,389 secondary school pupils and 3,408 parents.
