General information:
The Latin American Population Association, ALAP, is a scientific organization with interest on population issues. Joined by more than five hundred researchers, students and other professionals ALAP is a forum for dissemination, debateand discussion of demographic matters in Latin America and the Caribbean. The main purposes of ALAP are:
- To promote and organize interdisciplinary academic meetings - conferences, forums, seminars and workshops-at a regional and sub-regional scales.
- To disseminate socio-demographic research findings useful fordevelopment policies.
- To foster information exchange on population studies and to improve methodological and technical skills among Latin American social scientists, research centers, academic institutions, NGOs and governments.
- To promote scientific exchange between the scientific community and institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean and other regions of the world.
Since its founding in 2004, ALAP has organized every two years an International Congress on Population Studies (2004 in Caxambu, Brazil; 2006, Guadalajara, Mexico; 2008, Cordoba, Argentina; 2010, La Havana, Cuba; 2012, Montevideo, Uruguay; 2014, Lima, Peru; 2016, Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil ).
ALAP has an indexed scholarly journal, Revista Latinoamericana de Población, RELAP (Latin American Population Review) that is published twice a year.
