IUSSP Scientific Panel on New and Emerging Family Forms around the World
Call for Papers:
International Seminar on New and Emerging Family Forms
around the World
Barcelona, Spain, 21-23 March 2018
Deadline for submission of abstracts: 15 November 2017.
This panel brings together researchers from around the world to discuss changes in family behaviors and their consequences. The first workshop in Barcelona will focus on theories and explanations for the emergence of new family formation behaviors. The panel follows up on the IUSSP panel on Nuptiality (2011-2015), which emphasized changes in the tempo and quantum of more conventional behaviors (e.g. marriage and divorce). We will focus on more flexible forms of partnerships, such as cohabitation, living-apart-together relationships, and repartnering. Although studies should be underpinned by demographic data and analysis, we encourage novel explanations, cross-cultural comparisons, and theory-building. We also invite submissions that assess the consequences of family change for population and societies. We aim to have wide global representation as well as regional expertise. We are applying for funding to help pay for travel and accommodation, particularly for participants from low-income countries, but we will not know the outcome of our application for some time.
Online submissions:
We invite researchers to submit online, by 15 November 2017, a short 250-word abstract AND upload an extended abstract (2 to 4 pages, including tables) or a full paper which must be unpublished.
To submit and fill out the online submission form, please click here: ONLINE SUBMISSION FORM.
- The seminar will be limited to a maximum of 15 completed papers.
- Abstracts and papers must be written in English.
- Submission should be made by the author who will attend the seminar. If the paper is co-authored, please include the names of your co-authors in your submission form (in the appropriate order).
- Applicants will be notified whether their paper has been accepted by 1 December 2017.
Funding has been sought to help pay for travel and accommodation, particularly for participants from low-income countries, but the outcome is uncertain and will not be known for some time.
