XII Congress of the Latin American Population Association (ALAP)San José, Costa Rica, 24-28 August 2026
The Latin American Population Association (ALAP) held its XII Congress from 26 to 28 August 2026, in San José, Costa Rica. Pre-Congress training workshops were conducted in Puntarenas, on the Pacific Coast. The programme included more than 100 sessions, including regular sessions, round tables, book presentations, and plenary sessions, thanks to approximately 400 participants from the Latin American and the Caribbean Region, and colleagues from Europe and North America.
Conference papers focused on a wide range of demographic topics, including ultra-low fertility; the simultaneity of chronic diseases and new infectious disease epidemics; population ageing; labour markets; the challenges facing young people; and the new determinants of migration. The Congress’s main theme was how modern technologies are shaping democratic access to statistical information.
