Dr. Hill is currently Professor of Population and International Health, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, University of Southampton and the Emeritus Andelot Professor of Demography at Harvard University. The long-standing focus of Hill’s research has been understanding the health, mortality and fertility health transitions and their determinants in the Arab World and West Africa.
Hill directed a series of linked studies in Ghana including Wave 2 of the Women’s Health Study of Accra, a panel study of the health transitions and differentials in 3200 urban women. This work is conducted in close collaboration with colleagues in Ghana both at ISSER and at the Ghana School of Public Health. It involves the training of Ghanaian MPH and PhD students as well as their counterparts in US and UK universities in the methods and theory of longitudinal health research.
