Professional Summary:

I am an Associate Professor of Sociology at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. I earned my PhD in Sociology from Arizona State University and completed my post-doctoral fellowship at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. Prior to pursuing sociology at the graduate level, I obtained a B.Eng (First Class) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Madras.

My primary research focuses on social and demographic transformations in Asia, examining demographic responses to social, political, and economic changes. My particular geographical interests lie in South and Southeast Asia, where I examine social and demographic aspects related to marriage and divorce, families and households, and ageing. My sole authored works has been featured in prominent population and demographic journals, including Population and Development Review, Demographic Research, and Population. I served as the Vice President of the Asian Population Association and am currently a Council Member.
