I am Executive Director of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research and Professor of Social Statistics at the University of Helsinki. I joined the MPIDR from the London School of Economics where I served as Full Professor of Demography, and where I continue to work as Research Professor and lead my research group that is funded by a 1.3m euro ERC starting grant. My training includes a PhD in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Statistics from the University of Helsinki. Most of my research is on demographic forecasting, population health, fertility trends, and social statistics.
