Professional Summary:

Dr. Jayanta Kumar Basu is a distinguished public health and population studies expert with over 37 years of experience in demographic research, health systems strengthening, and civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS). A PhD in Population Studies and a Fellow of the University of Melbourne’s CRVS program (Data for Health Initiative), Dr. Basu has led key monitoring and evaluation initiatives across India with support from UNICEF, UNESCAP, DFID-UK, USAID, and others. He played a pivotal role in transitioning Bihar’s birth and death registration system from manual to online, and has overseen large-scale research on health, gender, and social equity. Dr. Basu authored several research reports and published research papers/articles in reputed international and national peer reviewed journals and chapters in edited books. He also presented research papers in several National and International conferences including recent International Population Conference (IPC) – 2025 in Brisbane. Dr. Basu is widely published, serves as a peer reviewer for international journals, and has presented his work at numerous global conferences. His expertise spans civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS), public health policy, data systems, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and program evaluation.
