Applications are invited from Population Scientists/Demographers for the position of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the newly-established Faculty of Public Health at Kuwait University. Candidates may apply for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Working language and medium of instruction in English. 

 

Applicants should have a PhD degree or equivalent in the domain of Population Science or Demography. They should also have a first degree in a relevant field. In addition to these academic qualifications it is important that applicants should have had an academic appointment in a Faculty of Public Health as well as a postgraduate record of teaching, course development and coordination, and substantial research in the domain of Population Sciences and/or Demography. Additionally, the applicant should have administrative experience. Prior experience in a leadership would add strength to the application.

 

The responsibilities of this position include providing administrative and academic leadership for the establishment of departmental graduate and undergraduate teaching programs, curriculum formation, and the recruitment of teaching faculty and students. The academic member must be able to foster a collaborative environment among departmental faculty members, evidence strategic capacity to build the department, and have excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

 

The vision of the newly-established Faculty of Public Health at Kuwait University is to foster leadership in responding to public health challenges in Kuwait and the Gulf region through promoting relevant education, high quality research, and evidence-based practice. The Faculty of Public Health will be committed to health protection and health promotion for all individuals and communities in Kuwait and the Gulf region. This will be achieved by providing relevant professional education and training, conducting research relevant to national and regional health challenges, engaging in public health interventions, fostering health studies so as to promote health literacy throughout the population, and advocating policies to protect and promote health. The first five departments will include Public Health Practice, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health, Health Policy and Management, and Social and Behavioural Sciences.
