IUSSP at the 2016 PAA Annual Meeting

At the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Population Association of America (PAA) in Washington, D.C., the IUSSP organized its 2016 Laureate ceremony in honour of Ron Lee, which was attended by many of his colleagues and friends, and held a booth, which it shared with several regional population associations. In addition, the IUSSP seized the opportunity of the PAA conference to organize its annual Council meeting.

Two of IUSSP’s Panels also organized meetings, in collaboration with the PAA:

• The IUSSP Scientific Panel on Big Data and Population Processes organized a Training Workshop on Social Media and Demographic Methods, on 30 March.

• The IUSSP Scientific Panel on Innovations in Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems held an expert group meeting titled “Towards the next generation of record-linkage studies to advance data quality assessment of civil registration systems in low- and middle-income countries”, on 4-5 April 2016.

IUSSP Council members and staff took turns at the booth to answer members’ questions, recruit new members and provide information on IUSSP scientific and training activities, including the next International Population Conference, which will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, 29 October-4 November 2017 and for which posters and hard copies of Call for Papers were distributed.

As for previous conferences, the IUSSP share its booth with regional population associations: ALAP President Enrique Pelaez, UAPS President Samuel Codjoe and Vice President Donatien Beguy as well Immediate Past APA President Terence Hull were present at the booth to meet their members and inform PAA meeting participants of their forthcoming events.
