Countdown to IPC2025!

The Call for Papers closed on 16 September with 2,320 submissions. This was a welcome increase in submissions over IPC2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic greatly reduced the number of abstracts submitted compared to the previous IPCs. For this Call for Papers, a one-submission rule per presenting author was enforced to increase the opportunity for more individuals to be included in the final scientific programme while reducing the workload of reviewers, session organisers and theme conveners.

Authors could submit a paper to one of the 72 member-organised session topics or to one of 24 theme topics. The most popular thematic areas were Fertility, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Health and Morbidity and Gender Dynamics. There were however submissions to all 24 thematic areas.

Submissions came from 2,320 authors in 103 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and Latin America. The region with the largest number of submissions was Asia-Pacific, unsurprising given the location of the next Conference in Australia. A large number of submissions came from India (608). The other top-twenty countries with the most submissions include: the United States (284), Nigeria (129), Australia (91), Italy (85), China (83), France (68), United Kingdom (68), Germany (65), Brazil (63), South Africa (56), Spain 50), Cameroon (43), Ghana (39), Canada (34), Burkina Faso (28), Bangladesh (24), Mexico (23), Uganda (22), and Belgium (20).

Each submission will undergo a double review by two of the 316 volunteer population experts from the IUSSP membership, before consideration by Session Organizers and Theme Conveners for session proposals. Organizers and conveners will curate engaging and cohesive sessions based on the high-quality papers identified by the reviewers, ensuring they reflect the geographic diversity of the field. The International Organizing Committee will then review these proposals and approve the scientific program in early December. Authors will be notified of the status of their abstracts by 15 January 2025.

Registration

Registration will open on 15 January. Please note that member discounts will be available only to members whose membership status is current. For members who did not let their membership lapse since IPC 2021, there will be an additional discount on the membership rate in appreciation for their fidelity. We will be writing these members directly.

Travel Support

Procedures for applying for financial assistance will be provided to all participants on the scientific programme. All participants are strongly encouraged to seek financial support from their own institutions, other national bodies, local representatives of international donors, international institutions and foundations active in the population field. While the IUSSP and the National Organizing Committee (NOC) hope to provide a limited number of travel awards, priority for these awards will be given to participants from low-income countries whose paper or poster has been accepted for the scientific programme and who are IUSSP members in good standing.

Research Leader Sessions

Research Leader Sessions are another opportunity for members and their institutions to contribute to the Conference Programme.  Twenty session slots will be set aside on the regular scientific programme of the conference to accommodate these sessions. Institutions interested in showcasing the results of a recent research project or raising awareness of their organization's work in the field are encouraged to submit a proposal by 1 December 2024. Side meetings & workshops

The National Organizing Committee (NOC) of IPC2025 is now taking Expressions of Interest to host side meetings, workshops, or training courses before, after and during the conference. During the week of the conference, side events can be accommodated at BCEC conference centre in the morning (breakfast meetings) or in the evenings, after the last session of the day. The week before and after the conference, rooms for groups of different sizes are available at the University of Queensland and surrounding hotels. The NOC has a small number of complimentary and low-cost room options, so please get in touch early if you wish to secure one of these. Please contact the NOC at IPC2025.NOC@gmail.com to discuss your needs, and to obtain a price estimate.
