Description

What does adult mortality look like when we shift our focus to low- and middle-income countries?

The next chapter of the global mortality transition will be written in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Within decades, the majority of the world's older adults will live in these settings — yet we still have much to learn about how and under which conditions adults die there.

This panel aims to bring together empirical, methodological, and theoretical contributions on adult mortality across LMICs, spanning young adults to centenarians and supercentenarians. The panel will address challenges in this field, from limitations in the data of traditional sources and the potential of novel sources, to methodological innovations and new evidence from LMICs that challenges existing mortality theories. The panel also aims to bring together scholars from different regions of the world, facilitate collaboration, and encourage the participation of early-career researchers, especially those based in low- and middle-income countries.
