Population, Inequality, and Climate Change

The IUSSP Scientific Panel on Population, Inequality, and Climate Change (PICC) will oversee an IUSSP project to produce policy-relevant evidence on the interaction of population dynamics with inequality and climate change. The panel will host at least one conference that addresses these central themes.  We also plan to follow up any conference with webinars or sessions and other events at other professional meetings. 

The Panel aims to become a knowledge hub for economic demography research that examines the interactions of population dynamics with inequality and climate change. Hosted conferences will use an open call for papers, and open invitation, for economists, demographers, and economic demographers to share their research relating to the Panel’s themes. Through conferences and other support, the Panel will influence young scholars or doctoral students in low- and middle-income countries to make innovations and advances in solution-oriented study of critical social and environmental issues of our time. 

We believe that inclusion of perspectives from individuals with a range of lived experiences and expertise is critical to understanding the impact of inequality at the intersection with population and climate change. With this in mind, our modes of working will encourage participation and leadership from a set of geographically, culturally, and philosophically diverse individuals.
