We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from those who have or will soon receive a Ph.D. in one of the social sciences or a related discipline. The appointment will begin September 1, 2023, subject to final budget approval. This is a 3-year position.

 

The Post-Doctoral Associate will spend 50% of their time on independent research, and 50% of their time on collaborative research with Professor Luca Maria Pesando (personal page and academic webpage). The collaborative project will span the fields of social stratification, global inequality, demography, sociology of education, applied economics, and global development (project description available upon request).  

 

We seek a candidate whose field of specialization lies within sociology, demography, public policy, applied economics, etc., and who has:

 

(i) interest in studying dynamics of family and educational change in cross-country comparative perspective;

 

(ii) interest in studying global inequalities between and within couples, households, communities, and coutries;

 

(iii) passion for global development and interest/knowledge of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs); and

 

(iv) interest in engaging with public policy. Advanced training in statistics and econometrics is essential, as well as solid skills with statistical packages such as R and Stata. Experience with Python, GIS, and TeX desirable.  

 

The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for additional compensation. You would be part of a group of over 20 post-doctoral fellows and 70 faculty in the Division of Social Science, which includes Social Research and Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, Legal Studies, etc.
