Changing family formation and child well-being

One of the largest demographic shifts in the last half a century is the massive postponement of family formation to increasingly advanced ages. This has implications for the well-being of the children and the parents, and the secular shift of fertility to older ages also has broader societal implications. We discuss to what extent the postponement of childbearing can be considered to have positive or negative implications and to what extent the mechanisms are related to biological ageing versus social processes; and analyze how universal or context-dependent the associations between parental age and child and parent outcomes are.
These events, which take place on a Tuesday of each month from 1 to 2 PM, are connected to the plan to establish an Einstein Center for Population Diversity in Berlin, which will bring together top-level research on this topic for the first time in a joint institution and contribute to the international visibility of Germany as a research location.
