Professional Summary:

Eliya Msiyaphazi Zulu is the co-founder and Executive Director of the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), which promotes application of research evidence in formulation of public policies in Africa. Zulu has over 20 years experience in conceptualizing, developing and managing research, capacity building, and policy analysis programs on a wide range of issues including population change and sustainable development, reproductive health, urbanization, and maternal health. He has published over 55 peer-reviewed journal articles, and served on many international development and scientific panels.  Zulu has been an active IUSSP member since 1994, he is a member of the IUSSP Reproductive Health Scientific Panel, and he is the ex-President of the Union for African Population Studies (2007-2011). Zulu earned his PhD in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania, a Masters in Population and Development from the Australian National University, and a Bachelor of Social Science in Economics and Applied Statistics from the University of Malawi.
