International Population Conference

Countdown to IPC2025!

The call for papers for the 30th International Population Conference (IPC2025), in Brisbane, Australia, 13 to 18 July 2025, received submissions from 2,320 authors. Each submission will undergo a double review by two of the 316 volunteer population experts from the IUSSP membership, before consideration by Session Organizers and Theme Conveners for session proposals. Call for Research Leader Session Proposals

Become a knowledge partner and raise awareness of your organization’s research and work in the population field. A limited number of Research Leader Sessions are available on the IPC2025 conference programme. Deadline to submit: 1 December 2024.

Call for host country proposals for IPC 2029

The IUSSP Council invites national population associations and other national institutions to consider hosting the XXXI International Population Conference in 2029. Formal bid proposals are requested for 15 March 2025, but in the meantime, expressions of interest are welcome.

IUSSP awards

Call for 2025 Early Career Awards nominations

The IUSSP Early Career Awards, established in 2023, are offered in the following world regions: Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America. One award will be bestowed per region in a unique collaboration with UAPS, APA, EAPS, ALAP and the PAA. Deadline for nominations: 1 October 2024.

The IUSSP Laureate Award honours exceptional achievements in the population field. Nominate a deserving colleague for the 2025 IUSSP Laureate Award. Deadline for nominations: 1 November 2024.

Call for 2025 IUSSP–Mattei Dogan Award 

This Award honours a mid-career scientist of high international renown for the contribution of his or her work to the development of studies of population that draw on the perspectives of different disciplines and for the importance that this work has accorded to international comparisons. Members' published software

This section advertises members’ software packages. These packages, which enhance the study of population, must be published in established repositories with rigorous peer testing and review. 

  • Jeronimo O. Muniz (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, UFMG) has published two Stata software packages for demographic estimation: 
    1/ mslt calculates the functions of a multistate life table and plots a graph of conditional and unconditional life expectancies by time. 
    2/ ilt calculates single decrement life tables and the net flow of migrants by age.

Regional population associations

2024 APA conference in Kathmandu, Nepal

The 6th Asian Population Association Conference will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal, on 27-30 November 2024. Note that the IUSSP Panel on Panel on Early Career Perspectives will organize an Early Career Researcher Symposium on 26 November as a side event.

The 11th Latin American Population Association (ALAP) Congress will be held in Bogota, Colombia, 9-13 December 2024 on "New" demographic scenarios: the contribution of population studies in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Pursue a PhD in Demography at Princeton

The graduate program offered by the Office of Population Research (OPR) at Princeton University welcomes applications from strong candidates around the world. Developing an inclusive demography language

Students from the Master in Population Studies, University of Groningen, are working on a project to develop an inclusive demography language useful to the global demography community. The students are now looking in particular (but not exclusively) for researchers or students who have a visual impairment themselves. If you are interested in being interviewed by or brainstorming with the students please fill out the form by 30 September.
