It now has new theming and uses a new credit card payment processor. Tools for Demographic Estimation was also upgraded and transferred to the new server. Work continues with new features that will be added in the coming months. International Population Conference The call for papers for the 2025 International Population Conference (IPC2025) in Brisbane, Australia is almost ready and will be posted in October. As a preview, please find the list of themes and conveners. IUSSP Panel activities Rethinking Family Planning Measurement with a Reproductive Rights and Justice Lens The Panel launched a Call for Papers for its first in-person meeting on Assessing approaches to demand-side family planning measurement with a reproductive justice and rights framework, which will take place 5-7 March 2024 in Kenya. Those interested in submitting a paper or participating as an expert should apply before 22 October 2023. Elevating Urban Family Planning The IUSSP Fellowship programme for Urban Family Planning came to an end on 31 August 2023. The programme provided research grants, training and mentoring to early-career fellows in sub-Saharan Africa to carry out policy-relevant research on family planning in urban settings. Machine learning tools for the analysis of migration trajectories The LIFELONGMOVE project and the IUSSP Scientific Panel on Lifetime Migration organized two training sessions in hybrid mode on 13 and 15 June 2023 on the topic of “Machine Learning Tools for the Analysis of Migration Trajectories”. Recordings of the sessions are now available. Lifetime Migration Panel sessions at the BSPS conference The IUSSP Scientific Panel on Lifetime Migration organized two sessions at the 50th British Society for Population Studies (BSPS) 2023 Conference at Keele University, 11-13 September 2023. The first session was dedicated to childhood migration while the second explored the cumulative impact of successive moves. The IUSSP Scientific Panel on Epidemics and Contagious Diseases: The Legacy of the Past made contributions across multiple sessions at the Fifth Conference of the European Society of Historical Demography, held at Radboud University, in the Netherlands, from 30 August to 2 September 2023 on the general theme The Challenge of Comparing Across Space and Time. IUSSP at the TSITICA conference The IUSSP Scientific Panel on Population, Inequality and Climate Change participated in the Symposium on Climate Change and Inequalities organized in Cape Town, South Africa, 7-8 March 2023, by the Transforming Social Inequalities Through Inclusive Climate Action (TSITICA) project. With support from PRB, the Panel was able to fund the participation of three early-career researchers. IUSSP Webinar Series Register for the forthcoming webinars: Social inequalities in multi-morbidity at death This 2nd webinar, organized by the IUSSP Scientific Panel on Declining Mortality and Multi-morbidity at Death on 28 September 2023, will focus on socio-economic differences in multi-morbidity at death and will be structured around presentations by Tim Adair and Paul Peters. Population registers, ethics and human rights This webinar, to be held on 10 October 2023, is organized by the IUSSP Panel on Population Registers, Ethics and Human Rights in collaboration with the IDRC, Canada. It will showcase 3 IUSSP fellows' research projects and a collaborative group project being undertaken by the team of mentors. The webinar will be an open forum for attendees to engage in a meaningful discourse on the promises and perils of digitized population registers in settings as diverse as Brazil, Cameroon, Uganda and South Africa. Debate on population & sustainability The question, for this debate organized by Stan Becker on 18 October 2023, is: "The population of humans that can be supported sustainably on the planet at a reasonable standard of living is below 4 billion. Yes or No?" After an introduction by Joel Cohen to provide some background, Anastasia Pseiridis & Frank Götmark will argue "Yes” while Timothy Guinnane & Jacques Emina will argue "No". IUSSP Membership New student fee starting 1 January 2024 A new one-time student fee covering 4 years of membership as a Student Associate will become effective on 1 January 2024. The fee is set at Euro 40 for students residing in High-Income Countries and at Euro 20 for students residing in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. IUSSP Awards The IUSSP Laureate Award honours exceptional achievements in the population field. Nominate a deserving colleague. (See list) Regional Population Associations 2024 ALAP congress in Bogota, Colombia The 11th Latin American Population Association (ALAP) Congress will be held in Bogota, Colombia in December 2024. Updates will be available on the ALAP website. 2024 APA conference in Mumbai, India The 6th Asian Population Association Conference will take place in Mumbai, India, 27-30 November 2024. The call for submissions will open on 2 October 2023 and close on 2 February 2024. 2024 PAA Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio The 2024 Annual Meeting of the Population Association of America (PAA) will be held in Columbus, Ohio 17-20 April 2024. The Call for Papers will close on 1 October 2023. 2024 European Population Conference in Edinburgh The 2024 European Population Conference (EPC 2024), organized by the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) in collaboration with the University of St Andrews, will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland (United Kingdom) 12-15 June 2024. The Call for Papers is now available. The deadline for submissions is 1 November 2023. 2024 African Population Conference in Lilongwe, Malawi The 9th African Population Conference, organized by the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS), will be held in Lilongwe, Malawi, 20-24 May 2024 on the theme: “Road to 2030: Leveraging Africa’s human capital to achieve transformation in a world of uncertainty”. The UAPS Council seeks suggestions from members for sessions in the call for papers for the 9th APC. XXI International AIDELF Conference The XXII International AIDELF Conference will take place in Aveiro, Portugal, 27-30 August 2024 on the theme: "Demography and mobility". The Call for Papers closed on 25 September 2023. Other Announcements AFIDEP wins 2023 UN Population Award The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) is the laureate of the 2023 United Nations Population Award in the institutional category. The UN selection committee praised AFIDEP's impact in areas such as family planning, maternal health, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, and African population dynamics. Population 2024 Early-Career Research Prize Population is a quarterly open-access journal published in English and French by the French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED). Master's and PhD students as well as early-career researchers working in population studies are invited to submit a research article to compete for the Early-Career Researcher prize. All articles accepted this year for publication will then be examined by our international jury in early 2024 to select the winning article. QuantMig offers three freely-accessible, open online tools: The QuantMig Migration Estimates Explorer includes the probabilistic estimates of migration within, into and out of Europe, for the period 2009-2019, and integrating earlier estimates for 2002-2008. The QuantMig Migration Scenarios Explorer presents population and labour force indicators for 2020-2060. The DEMIG-QuantMig Policy Database documents over 7,600 migration policy changes enacted by 31 European countries in the period 1990-2020. Check out the new resources made available online by the National Institute of Aging (NIA) Division of Behavioural and Social Research (BSR) as well as their scientific priorities and calls for applications for research and training. The Indian Association for Social Sciences and Health (IASSH) held its 18th Annual Conference on 15-17 March 2023 in collaboration with the Sharda School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sharda University, Greater Noida on the general theme "Contextualizing Health in Social Sciences: Global and National Perspectives".
