International Population Conference IPC 2025 website & call for papers The website for the 2025 International Population Conference (IPC 2025) in Brisbane, Australia is open. The call for papers, which will open on 1 May 2024, is available in pdf as a screen version as well as in a print-friendly format on the IUSSP website). (Visit the IPC2025 website and download PDF Call & Printable Call) Call for host country proposals for IPC 2029 The IUSSP Council invites national population associations and other national institutions to consider hosting the XXXI International Population Conference in 2029. Formal bid proposals are requested for 15 March 2025, but in the meantime, expressions of interest are welcome. IUSSP Awards This first competition for the IUSSP Early Career Awards received applications from a strong and diverse field of young scientists from all corners of the world. These Awards are made in collaboration with the regional population associations: UAPS, APA, EAPS, ALAP and PAA. 2024 IUSSP Laureate – Wolfgang Lutz Wolfgang Lutz was selected as the 2024 IUSSP Laureate Award in honour of his exceptional achievements in the population field. The Award ceremony will take place virtually, probably in June 2024. Training Developing your first research grant proposal This webinar was held online, on 29 November 2023, organized by Ankit Sikarwar on behalf of the IUSSP Panel on Early Career Perspectives. The instructor was Natalie Papanastasiou, a Research Grant Consultant from Outstanding Research Grants. The recording, which is restricted to IUSSP members and student associates, will be available until 31 December 2023. IUSSP Webinar Series Social inequalities in multi-morbidity at death This webinar, featuring presentations by Tim Adair and Paul Peters, was organized on 28 September 2023 by the IUSSP Scientific Panel on Declining Mortality and Multi-morbidity at Death. Its focus was on socio-economic differences in multi-morbidity at death. (Watch the recording and access the slides.) Population registers, ethics and human rights This webinar, organized by the IUSSP Panel on Population Registers, Ethics and Human Rights in collaboration with IDRC, Canada, was held on 10 October 2023. It showcased 3 IUSSP fellows' research projects and a group project undertaken by the team of mentors. Debate on population & sustainability This debate was organized by Stan Becker on 18 October 2023. The full question debated was "Yes or No: The population of humans that can be supported sustainably on the planet at a reasonable standard of living is below 4 billion?" The debate was introduced by Joel Cohen, who provided some background, and included debaters Anastasia Pseiridis & Frank Götmark for "Yes” and Timothy Guinnane & Jacques Emina for "No". Register for the forthcoming webinar: Innovations in data infrastructure for the longitudinal study of international migration This webinar, organized by the IUSSP Panel on Lifetime Migration on 7 March 2024, will include an introduction by Sergi Vidal on the importance of longitudinal data to study international migration, followed by a panel discussion with four speakers - Aliakbar Akbaritabar, Nikola Sander, Rosa Weber, Marcela Cerruti - facilitated by Claudia Brunori, and by a Q&A session with the audience. (Register in advance to attend this webinar.) IUSSP Membership Reminder: new student fee starting 2024 IUSSP student membership will no longer be free. It will be replaced in 2024 by a new one-time student fee covering 4 years of membership. The fee is set at Euro 40 for students residing in High-Income Countries and Euro 20 for students residing in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. News from the Members

(See list) Regional Population Associations 2024 ALAP congress in Bogota, Colombia The 11th Latin American Population Association (ALAP) Congress will be held in Bogota, Colombia in December 2024. Updates will be available on the ALAP website. 2024 APA conference in Kathmandu, Nepal The 6th Asian Population Association Conference will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal, 27-30 November 2024. The call for submissions is now open until 2 February 2024. 2024 PAA Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio The 2024 Annual Meeting of the Population Association of America (PAA) will be held in Columbus, Ohio 17-20 April 2024. 2024 European Population Conference in Edinburgh The 2024 European Population Conference (EPC 2024), organized by the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) in collaboration with the University of St Andrews, will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland (United Kingdom) 12-15 June 2024. The Call for Papers is now closed with a record number of submissions. Conveners are developing oral and poster sessions. Authors will be informed by mid-January. Registration will open soon. 2024 African Population Conference in Lilongwe, Malawi The 9th African Population Conference, organized by the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS), will be held in Lilongwe, Malawi, 20-24 May 2024 on the theme: “Road to 2030: Leveraging Africa’s human capital to achieve transformation in a world of uncertainty”. XXII International AIDELF Conference The XXII International AIDELF Conference will take place in Aveiro, Portugal, 27-30 August 2024 on the theme: "Demography and mobility". Other Announcements Marc Luy - new Director of VID, Austria Marc Luy was appointed as the new Director of the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He succeeds Wolfgang Lutz, who served as a director from 2002 to 2022, successfully internationalizing the institute and fostering a diverse range of research activities. Alexia Fürnkranz-Prskawetz and Tomas Sobotka will serve as deputy directors. NIA funding to expand Alzheimer’s research infrastructure in Africa The National Institute on Aging (NIA) presents a funding opportunity for Building Neuroscience Research Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and AD-Related Dementias (ADRD) in Africa. The letter of intent (optional) is due 12 January 2024. The application due date is 14 February 2024.
